Water Law

We assist with water rights acquisition and sale, due diligence, permitting, and litigation in Colorado’s water courts. We also handle water-related aspects of real estate deals and help clients across industries—including agriculture and development—secure and defend access to critical water resources.

Clientele

Our water law clients include agricultural producers, landowners with vested water rights, as well as municipalities and counties managing local supplies. We represent developers of residential and commercial projects requiring water for permitting and buildout. Our clients also include parties buying, selling, or leasing water rights, and private investors acquiring water assets for long-term value or future transfer.

Strengths

Our water law practice is grounded in a deep command of Colorado’s unique legal doctrines, including prior appropriation and the state’s adjudication system. We bring extensive experience in both transactional and litigation contexts—navigating complex change-of-use proceedings, drafting and enforcing decrees, and representing parties in Water Court. Our strength lies in offering comprehensive legal solutions that integrate seamlessly with our broader real estate capabilities, including land use, development, and natural resource matters. This cross-disciplinary approach allows us to anticipate and address water issues as part of a property’s full lifecycle, from acquisition to entitlement to disposition.
