Open Position:  Full Charge Bookkeeper

TITLE: Full Charge Bookkeeper

REPORTS TO: Chair of Finance Committee

SALARY: $60,000 – $75,000

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:

The FJGG Bookkeeping Department manages all aspects of the law firm’s financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, financial statements, bank reconciliations, and tax preparations. The Full-Charge Bookkeeper is responsible for all the firm’s accounting needs.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage Ledgers:
  • Maintain organized records of all financial transactions.
  • Tracks all financial transactions, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, billing, and invoicing. (Record all money coming in and out of the firm.)
  • Maintains and prepares an accurate general ledger for monthly review.
  • Capture and correctly categorize expenses.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable:
  • Create and send invoices to clients monthly.
  • Generates and reviews monthly invoices.
  • Manages ad hoc billing requests and questions from attorneys and clients.
  • Records all account payments.
  • Reconcile Accounts:
  • Reconcile cash, bank accounts, and revenues.
  • Monitors cash levels.
  • Prepare bank deposits.
  • Ensures Trust Accounting practices are adhered to.
  • Manage Payroll:
  • Oversee payroll through the firm’s payroll platform.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all hourly and salary staff.
  • Prepare Tax Returns:
  • Collaborate with a CPA to help prepare taxes.
  • Prepares tax returns for CPA review and submittal.
  • Manages relationship with CPA.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required  

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting. 
  • Three plus years’ experience in legal bookkeeping – strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Three plus years of experience with accounting software (Intuit quickbooks, Xero, FreshBooks, etc.)
  • Accurate, diligent, and display attention to detail.
  • Understand and appreciate the accuracy required to maintain and manage the law firm’s trust accounts.
  • Demonstrate a self-starter mentality and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired 

  • Experience with ProLaw (practice management software).
  • Experience handling insurance defense billing.
